I am having problems finding any getting started guides for Zbrush. It has a pretty high learning curve it seems, and I'm just not getting it! D:
If anyone has any recommendations, that would be great! ^__^

Wehn I purchased zbrush it came with a 500 page book called "Practical Guide". Do you have that? I found it very good although it still was challenging to learn.

The Practical Guide the Silvia mentions is a good start, and there are quite a few tutorials and other online resources..
Check out the online documentation: http://www.zbrush.info/docs/index.php/Main_Page Here is a great set of video tutorials by a guy called Canned Mushrooms... http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=53087 The Tutorial Forums on ZBrush Central: http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/forumdisplay.php?f=19 I created a demo/tutorial that shows how I sculpt and texture objects in ZBrush for use as SL sculpted prims. You can watch it at my Shiny Life website: http://www.shiny-life.com/2008/02/12/video-creating-sculpted-prims-with-zbrush-3/ _____________________

The Practical Guide the Silvia mentions is a good start, and there are quite a few tutorials and other online resources.. I wish I could kid about this, but my dog ate it. .____.; She was a puppy when I first got the program, and decided that it looked akin to the phonebook she found and had devoured not a week earlier. ^____^;;; I created a demo/tutorial that shows how I sculpt and texture objects in ZBrush for use as SL sculpted prims. You can watch it at my Shiny Life website: http://www.shiny-life.com/2008/02/12/video-creating-sculpted-prims-with-zbrush-3/ Actually, finding that specific demo/tut was the whole reason why I was trying to get back into Zbrush! I had played with it a few times, but I wanted to be able to give sculpting something worthwhile a try, which is why I was looking for a more program "it does this" kinda guide. ^__^ Thanks for making that tut, BTW! |

For making sculpties for SL, there is a smallish subset of tools and techniques that you would even be able to make use of or translate well into SL.
I recommend starting with a sphere and concentrating on these areas: Under tools: All of the deformations. Use the smoothing deformation liberally. Inflate can be fun. Gravity is very useful and interesting. Masking with soft edge alphas Under transform: Symmetry on x, y or z or any combination You can get an amazing variety of shapes just by doing these steps: Apply a mask and set symmetry and move with different size brushes. Apply a mask and use deformations. Do let us know where you get stuck. _____________________
