I finally got to using PloppSL. It looked very ideal and it's fun to use. (Thanks Vlaad)
However the shapes are a mess when I import them into SL. They're in JPEG format with the predicted loss.
It's a bit ironic that you have to import PNG shapes to use them in Plopp but it won't output anything which won't end up corrupt.

THe Jpg compression may be part of the problem with the final sculpty shapes made in Ploppsl, but I think the main culprit is the actual 3d conversion process. It just doesn't create clean, well form sculpties. At best the resulting shapes are cartoony and 'crinkled' at worst they are scrunched and creased in odd ways. I keep hoping that the folks behind PLoppsl will update the program, because it is such a fun piece of software. A better conversion process is on their to-do list at least. In the mean time you might want to try a program called Archipelis. It's not free, but it is very cheap and seems to offer better results. http://www.archipelis.com/

Plopp also makes 128X128 sculpt textures doesn't it? SL likes sculpt taxtures to be 64X64?
I've made a few things with Plopp then opened the sculpty in sculptypaint to smooth things out and make adjustments. Seems to work OK.

You really get no options during the save process. A simple dialog box to name the files and that's it.
I'll check the other app out.
