Does anyone know where I might be able to find a good "texture on a prim" approach to making jewelery in SL?
I'm fairly new to building, and this seems to be a much more forgiving method than the tiny-prim-by-prim way. (or am I misguided?)
BTW - Happy New Year all!

Hello Antimony. I see this is your first post, so welcome to the forums. Your question is pretty broad. Without more specifics on what you want to know, the answer must be equally broad. The "approach" you're asking for basically boils down to these steps: - Design your piece of jewelry.
- Paint a picture of it in Photoshop.
- Upload the picture to SL.
- Slap it on a prim surface.
The specific details of each step will depend on what you're trying to make.

Wow, that was a fast reply; thanks!
I was looking to make a stack of necklaces (like a bunch of different but coordinating necklaces all worn at once).
I figured the texture on a single prim approach would be the only way to go to avoid any attachment point problems and to make modding-to-fit as easy as possible.
I realize this is pretty specific, so I don't expect to find an exact tutorial, but maybe a tutorial on making good looking jewelery textures would be helpful.
In any case, thanks again.

Here's an awesome tutorial on making gem textures in PS: http://www.pspiz.net/tutorials/intermediate/GemDraw.htmlAs for stacks of necklaces - one could use both chest and spine attachment point to wear two necklaces; or offer "pre-stacked" combinations for sale. Also, when linking two objects together, the resulting object keeps the attachment point & settings of the object selected last when linking. So another option would be to sell the necklaces +mod and let the customer link his prefered necklace stack together. I guess not everyone is comfortable with positioning and linking things like that, so you might offer that as a service (in case you're going to sell the necklaces). Yet another option is to do the jewelry 100% texture on a clothing layer, for example on the jacket layer. But this isn't really stackeable either, unless you offer the necklaces on a variety of layers, and it would severly limit other clothing options if people decide to wear two or three clothing layer necklaces

Thanks!
That gem tutorial is unbelievably exciting; can't wait to get going!
As for the stackability problem; I was planning on offering each necklace singularly, so users could stack at will (using 2 or more attachment points; I've even worn necklaces on my *nose* for god's sake!) and then as an additional option, every one of the necklaces stacked together on a single prim.
Again; thanks for *all* the help, but especially that gem tutorial. I'm positively giddy!
