Hi,

I'd like to build a sailing boat and I wonder if it's possible to build sails that would flap in the wind. I started to play with flexible prims and built a nice flag. But For a sail, I would need to tie the flexible prim at both ends and have the middle part flexible. Is it possible?

Thanks!!

No. Once you attach anything to the flexi end of a flexi prim, it loses its flex.

I haven't tried this, but I suggest you mount your sail with its Z axis horizontal and the flexi end pointing along the boom. Then keep it almost rigid .... zero gravity and very slight wind response so that it doesn't flap or sag -- and so it doesn't zip around the mast too much. If you make the boom a flexi cylinder with the same parameters, it ought to "follow" the sail as it moves. Maybe.

It could be cool to have sculptie sails. You could have several shapes and script shape changes for wind velocity and direction.

Rolig,

I like your idea, because it's simple. Maybe if I use a chunk of a cylinder and try what you suggest I could get a decent feeling.

Sylvia,

I like you idea, because it might create an awsome effect. But I suggest that it would be tricky, and I feel that it would be difficult to create a realistic effect.

thanks both of you for your help!

Ti,
