Offline building with prims

I spend a lot of time at work without any kind of internet connection (blasphemy, I know), and was wondering if there were any 3d modelers out there that I can use offline to do design? I realize I won't be able to upload these creations, but I can figure out what I'm doing offline then do it online.

Alternatively, is there any way to run the client in an offline mode? This would be an ideal solution for me, being able to use the same tools as online, but in a loopback-style personal sandbox server.

Well, not no... more like "sorta".

Jeffrey Gomez has a Blender script system that works much like an offline building system. With (depending) plans on making it so you can import the results to SL ...

Somone has part of the work done to build with prims in Blender and export it to a text format that a Second Life script can import in-world, but so far it's very alpha and only supports building one prim at a time, so not extremely useful.

Maybe we could convince him to start taking donations to continue working on it.

EDIT: Looks like someone beat me to it :-)

What kind of work do you do that allows you to use the company's time to do personal things?

The same kind of work where I come in on my days off to deal with issues that noone else can. I'm very good at my job.


Anyhow, I don't care so much about importing into SL, I can do that by hand.
