Over the past month I have noticed that when I create a prim and move it (either by hand or by changing the numbers in the edit panel ) the object will jump from place to place. Even if I type, for example. 1.0 in a size box, it might then change itself to 0.6, then 0.83 and then to another random value. It might not even end up being at the size I typed in. This positional gitter is also visible on screen. Often it will continue for a couple of seconds after I have deselected the object. As you can appreciate this makes it extremely hard to place objects correctly the first time. We have two machines in our house and get the same problem on both machines. Oddly I have had periods were the problem is less noticeable... but I can't work out if it's related to update issues, connection speed, lag or what !!
Has anyone else experienced this issue and is there a way of correcting it ?

I have had the same thing happen to me, many occasions over the past couple of years. Sometimes every thing is normal for a couple of months. When you contact Lindens about it, first thing they do is blame your connection and such. I know others that have had this and same problems as me, also. sometimes when you link prims, some move and stuff like that. It's all part of the game we love lol.
I found problems, this being one of them tend to happen to most at the same time, and usually when they Lindens have ingame problems, such as sims going down and things.
I remember once I contacted a Linden cause my avatar would go invisable, couldn't click on it to go to appearance or anything. I got told they have never heard of it before and he checked my pc and net connections somehow and guess what. He said my net was bad performance. It is a pretty good connection, plenty more than enough for sl and 99% of all games online.
Anyway, I don't think you will ever know why it happens, just that it does and always will. They don't correct bugs, they merely creat more trying to fix them hehe. My thought anyway

It's "normal" and expected. IT's worse on laggy days than regular days. I connect from Australia over shoddy DSL, so I get this problem all the time.

Most likely this is due to the connection--not necessarily yours or SL's--just in general. I find if downloading/uploading in the background, SL will be laggier: objects won't stay put, values will change (particularly bad when using the mousewheel to change things), my av moves slower/jumps, etc. However, SL still uses the UDP protocol (vs. TCP/IP) for many things, which is notorious for losing packets, so that may explain things as well.
LL is starting to move towards full TCP/IP but I don't know how long it'll take. I really don't know why they chose UDP in the first place. Active Worlds had problems with UDP YEARS ago and quickly got a clue and moved to TCP/IP. 'Tis a shame LL didn't learn from AW's mistakes...but surely they had to've been following its development (if not, that's just sad)...
