Okay. I'm trying to build a model of the Pancor Jackhammer shotgun in SL (it's a very distinctive design, I like to practice and, well, guns sell.) The attached image is what it looks like.

Can anyone tell me a way to create a prim or prims to look like the end of the muzzle there? It's a cylinder, but it's had a 45-degree slice taken out of it. I find myself simply unable to do anything like that. I've played around with shears but they don't shear the right way.

You could use Cadroes Ringmaker to make a cylinder out of sections and then resize each one to a different (varying) height on a parabolic curve. Topping off each section with a 45 degree triangle would finish the effect, but up close it would not be smooth.

Better to use a regular cylinder and a nice alpha texture?

Use a TUBE, and shear it, not a cylinder, ... then you should be fine.

Tube and sheering would be the best bet.

It shouldnt take more than one prim.

Hold on, a "tube"? What do you mean, a torus? I'm confused.

You make a default shape and then Tube is a selection in the Object screen in edit mode. I think that is how you get a tube, can't rez one off the bat.

Tube is the 12th object, in the objects selection panel :)

Tubes are awesome. Play with their settings, especially hollow + advanced cut. You can make all kinds of really keen shapes.
