Linking Prims Too Far Apart ??

Was wondering if there was a way to link prims that are too far apart. I'm building a house for a friend and it's in two pieces right now. I keep getting a messege saying that I can't link because the prims are too far apart. If anyone has any info that could help me out it would greatly be appreciated :)

yes make the prims bigger, link them, then select edit linked parts and shrink them again.

It's worth saying that plenty of houses and other sizeable builds come in more than one piece; it's not unusual at all. Commercial home builders often use one of several rezzing/aligning tools for easy setup, but if you're just doing this for a friend you could probably just be available for a few minutes to help him or her line things up properly :)

errm am i going crazy or don't you have that backwards?

you select the prims shrink it to a size where they are not too far apart hit link all and then put it back to the regular size?

*thinks*
*scratches head*

*gets coffee*

umm i'm pretty sure that's backwards hehe

Well the maximum linking distance is relative to the size of the prims so it may make sense to make the prims bigger so that the relative distance between them is linkable, then scale them back down. I don't know if that would work for houses as you tend to be up at the 8-10m scale on each prim anyway.

It sounds like the kind of trick that would lead to exploding linksets on rotation anyway. Links in SL are wobbly enough as it is.

yeah im assuming (although I could be wrong ^^) that its a house completely built and he has come across the problem where he can't say link the top floor or something to the rest of the house because "its to far apart to be linked" so yeah the remedy for that is to verrry carefully select the entire bundle (not always easy) shrink it to say half size link it and then expand it back to max size and then carefully move it up and down to make sure they are all linked (old fashion way to sell prefabs ..)

warning though if this is what you mean by linking stuff to far apart the first time you go to mess with the newly linked house say modify it no matter what you do the entire mess will become unlinked :P

I never considered linking to prims 10+ meters away with space in between them though seems "unnatural" to me hehe but then I only tend to build small things and if its a house its just one for a friend and not going to be travelling elsewhere or be sold
