Might have been dreaming....but I could've sworn I read something once about being able to open up a browser in SL. I think it would be great to have a whole wall open up to reveal ones fav. website. Is this possible?

You're not dreaming. It's in the works. As the story goes, the first stage has been implimented already, the help browser. Stage 2 will be to expand the help browser to a full browser. Stage 3 will be to map the browser onto prims.
LL had promised the full kit & kaboodle way back for like 1.7, and then failed to deliver. Apparently they were having some problems with certain plugins like Flash. My feeling (as well as a lot of other people's at the time) was screw the plugins, just give us the part that's working now. We already have Flash capability with Quicktime anyway, and even if we didn't, is it really worth delaying the whole thing over it?
LL didn't quite see it our way, da bastadges, and so here we are about to receive 1.12, still with no html on prims.
P.S. No offense, Lindens. I mean "bastadges" with the greatest of affection, of course. No fargin war implied. I just REALLY want the web on my prims, so I'm speaking with just a little impatience showing is all.

With the huge image problem we are having right now it would be great if we could just point some of the prims textures to a webserver in order to take some of the load off of SL.

Nice thought, but I don't think it would help. I seem to recall one of the techie Lindens, Lee maybe, once saying that html on a prim is rendered as a 1024x1024 texture.

But as I understand it, it was suposed to be a client based system and complety bypass SL. This means that it would not be good for FPS, but would help Sim Lag.
Of course it's all worthless if the client does not cache anything.
Why does SL re-download my worn AV everytime I teleport to a new sim?

closest thing to web on a prim is quicktime, course it supports movies and audio, but also text non interactive flash and most image types course IMO quicktime sucks and i usually dont even have it running most of the time im in SL i love the inworld browser tho (f1 help) you can monkey around with your ini files and have it load up different pages besides the default linden help page ... ive got mine setup to a local (as in saved on my disk) link page, which points to my local wiki copy, google and a few others theres a few con's to the current system tho by default you can only load the LL help page ... it doesnt have its own address bar, which altho better than nothing, does get tedious with google and it doesnt support cookies, so pretty much anything requiring browser data or logins or ...or ... or .. (and so on) is screwed and makes it quite limited maby when the lindens are not crashing the system over goofy UI crap...playing pinball, or holding meeting outside becusae its nice (damn hippys, get a white shirt, black tie and issue a employee id #) they will get back to this wonderfull feature that ppl actually want
