I run downstairs

It doesn't seem to matter how deep or shallow I make the steps or play with the gradient on my staircase. I can walk upstairs with some dignity but I can't stop running downstairs - if I'm lucky, that is, because I often fall down them or make an 'over-the-top' jump to the floor below.

I usually average steps of a foot (30cm) in height with more in terms of depth for 'foot space' on a gradient of somewhere around 40 degrees. I have made much shallower staircases with gentler gradients but they just aren't a practical option since I'm not living in the Taj Mahal.

Is this a common issue or are my av's graceless descents evidence of a secret drinking habit?

Yeah I think we are all in a rush when we walk down! I tap tap tap on the up arrow and don't hold it down when I don't want to look like a spaz but I still look like one whenever I stand up!

try converting the material to something that gives more friction in the physics engine... like maybe rubber... usually helps with sliding on steep ramps.

Thanks Void, that never occurred to me. The material I'm currently using is just the default 'wood' because I'm only 'blocking in' the pieces but I'll certainly give it a try.

Mind you, I don't think the wood is polished.

You're right! Thanks Valkyrie.

All the same it's a shame that it isn't the other way 'round. It would make more sense to me if we could force a run downhill by holding the space bar, for instance, but that our avatars would otherwise walk as normal.
