Hi im looking for people willing to join me in a joint venture setting up a rental empire. The empire will build massive skyscrapers on small plots of land and rent them out for shops and advertising. I am looking for builders to give me a quote for the building skyscraper. (I want someone else more experienced than me to build it). I am also looking for people to invest in this. Investors will be expected to share the responsibility of running and will also share the profits. Please email nizan@bedales.org.uk on weekdays or nizanp@btconnect.com at weekends.

Jo, I see that you're brand new, so welcome to SL. I have a few practical questions about this project of yours. First, since "massive skyscrapers" full of shops will likely require mass quantities of prims, how do you propose to put them on small plots? Are you planning on owning entire sims so that you can have enough prims to go around? If so, why bother subdividing into tiny parcels? Since you're brand new to SL, were you perhaps unaware of prim limits? A 512 square meter plot, for example, can only support 117 prims, hardly enough for anything "massive", let alone a mall. I hope I don't sound discouraging in any way, so if you've got a plan to make this all work within SL's confine's great. What is it?

You would never believe what kind of 'massive' damage 117 prims can do to the surrounding property. If you stack big blocks (with blue signs on them ) on top of each other, and use 'cut begin and end' on it, you get 6 x 117 surfaces to put billboards on with a tower that stands over a kilometer high! I guess being in boarding school can seriously warp your sense of virtual reality tho.

You can only stack a maximum of 76 of them before your builder script runs out of oomph at 768 meters. I built a tower like that out of hollow blocks with stairs running up the inside... about 500 prims total. Then I climbed up the inside and basejumped off it. Because.

Mine never ran out of oomph all the way up to 4km. But then again, I was wearing my building and dropping them off in stages.

not to discourage or derail your project. Honestly, I"d love to help by making these comments for you If you agree with some of these things, there is a good chance we can do business together. First, people generally dont' like to rent homes in skyscrapers. slumscrapers tend to do quite poorly unless well designed (i.e attractive PLUS alot of space/prims in each unit) This might reduce the number of tennants per plot you had in mind. Second, for people to rent shop space in a skyscraper, they will need good prim limits and good performance to justify people actually spending enough time at your building for there to be a reasonable chance that their little nook in the building will be seen by the foot traffic. So, find yourself a builder who is willing to take this into effect for you. Third, Unless you are pressed for land (i.e. you don't own your own sim) plan on using MORE space per shopping district/neighborhood than you think you can squeeze in. Your visitor's experience will be greatly enhanced if you keep your traffic and prims spaced just right. It keeps views nice and framerates steady. Fourth, the absolute BIGGEST barriers for developers are available money to start and ability to capture the notice of citizens. If you are looking for joint investors without a gameplan to get people to show up at your place, there's some more thinking to be done. We're all pretty helpful around this place, so feel free to flesh out some ideas here. ~Lefty
