Maya->SL surface textures misaligned

I'v uploaded a maya model of a minotaur (40 prims) using the maya export script and the importprimscript. Now after some initial problems I got it uploaded correctly, but the textures don't seem aligned, the shadows are all in the wrong places.

I'v noticed that when I rotate all textures (note that I'm NOT talking about the sculpt-texture, these are fine) 270 degrees, then it looks a lot better, but still on some prims the orientation seems wrong.

Because it is a 40 prim model, and it's hard to see which orientation is correct, it's very hard to rotate the textures manually.

Does anyone have this problem too, or has any idea what's wrong? could it be perhaps that the 'fix orientation' checkbox in the export script rotates/flips the sculpt texture, but forgets to rotate/flip the surface texture with it? (just an idea)
Is there any trick in maya that ensures the export script to orient the surface textures correctly?

any help would be very much appriciated!

(P.S. I've checked all the maya-SL tutorials I could find, but none of them mentions misaligned surface textures)

Mark, I only just saw this post. I'm having the same problem, also using Maya. My shadows aren't totally off, just stretched and distorted enough to look wrong. Maybe the sculptie mesh is just too low resolution to display the textures that look so nice in Maya? I'm going to gather some evidence and ask Qarl Linden about it. IM me if you want to compare notes.
