Hi,
I'm new to owning land and have just bought a 1024 rectangle which enjoys an unbuilt and freeform 45 degree slope down to the coast to the front, stepped to the rear (around 2m in RL terms every 512 plot on one side and 6m every 512 plot to the right/rear). The formed plots behind me are as yet unbuilt and as described the steep slope in front is freeform.
My questions are
- will anyone be able to build on the free form land to the front thus blocking an 'edge of hill' plot?
- will my neighbours be able to dramatically change the stepping of plots to the rear thus either towering above me or flatting the hill completely?
- what are the rules on number of floors to a plot building - can the neighbors ruin the tranquil landscape by building a skyscraper (there goes the neighbourhood :) )?
- is the sky above the plot mine / my neighbours e.g. whats the rules on building sky stations?

Thanks for listening!

If it's mainland there ARE no rules, and each owner can do as he/she likes on their land.

Limited by the restrictions LL sets down of course....prim allotment, land editing etc...

On the mainland, all but a very few sims have terraforming limits of +/- 4m. That hill can be changed, but not drastically. And you can safefly assume that any plot not currently protected by Governor Linden will eventually be bought and have something built on it.

If the land in front of you (the downhill side) is not Linden land then you are in danger of being built in front of.
The terraform ability around you is really up to the land. I have some hillside property that when made level has a dip in the center that won't come up. Other land I have owned, I added prims to fix problems...a snapshot of the surrounding ground can be used to texture it to make it blend in.
You "own the sky" above your property to an extent so just look at your property lines and consider everything above that yours.

If the angle is as sharp as I have pictured the answer is a tentative no. If there is enough room at the bottom where someone could could, they could put a 20 storied skyscrapper in front of your property. I accidently ruined the view of a neighbor I was able to build in front of. He had a beautiful sloping view of the ocean and I cut into the bank then built some towers in front of him that came to the same height as his floor. He and I spoke, he became a good friend, and I sold him those lots so he could have his view back.

Oh yes. Definately.

The only rules to building are prim limits. There are social niceties that your neighbors have the option to follow but there are no rules, unless you move to an area with a covenant. Think of that as a home owners assocation in the States.

Again, there are no rules other than prim limits. However, it is always polite and some of us think of it as proper for you to work with your neighbor so that all of you are happy.

Thanks Guys - I guess this forum feeds my addiction to talk to complete strangers whilst SL is down :)...... and the lag is about the same LOL!

Last question - can you point me in the direction of the Prim guidelines?

You are alloted 117 prims per 512sqm of land :)
