Snap to Grid

I am fairly new to building and have been watching a number of video tutorials about the basics. One outstanding feature is the "snap to grid" option when aligning prims via the "shift drag" operation. The problem is... my prims REFUSE to snap to the grid! I have the "snap to grid" option checked in the menu and it looks like it should work but the prim stays exactly where I drag it... not aligned with a grid line. I've tried a couple of sand boxes and they all behave the same. I checked all of the options that the tutorials recommended but still no luck. Is there something really basic that I am over looking? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

When you have Use Grid turned on, you'll see a white ruler appear on the screen whenever you're moving an object. To snap the object to a ledger line on the ruler, move the mouse onto the ruler as you're dragging the object. When the mouse is off the ruler, there is no snapping. When it's on the ruler, there is.

Unless there's something going wrong with your viewer, Chosen Few got it.

As you had been watching video tutorials, I wonder, did you notice Torley's explanation in http://youtube.com/watch?v=8k-XoIPycm8 @ 1:18?

Chosen Few... you hit the nail on the head!! A very subtle thing that didn't get mentioned in the tutorials I viewed. Shift dragging with the mouse cursor in the ruler works like a charm! Thanks again for the quick reply. You have improved the quality of my SL immensely!
