I have created small round spotlights.. but they dont look round until I am very close to them... I dont like that:-))

What can I do to improve the round feeling..

Next are that I want them to look like a spot.. a kind of light beam to be seen in front of them... some here that can tell me how to make such???

A happy Pet (Tina).. payday today:-)))

It sounds like your object detail draw preferences are set low? Try moving the slider up to max and see if that helps?

you wuz robbed! 2 years of sunday dinners? or over 200 hours to work off paying for a computer?! and he's your brother?! If I were you I'd renegotiate the deal while it's still early enough to do so :)

Either that, or work the 200 hours for someone who'll actually pay you a wage, and buy a MUCH better computer :)

You will find that if you add a little twist to round things, they become round again.

It is only at small sizes that the problem occurs. Someone taught me this trick, but I think they learned it from the Ivory Tower of Primitives tutorial.

Sorry...if you have an object like a cylinder, right click to edit, choose the object page of the edit menu, by clicking the tab along the middle. There is a setting, "twist begin and end".

Just set it at 9 say, in the twist begin box, and then look at your object. You will find that it goes from bumpy to smoothly round with just that little bit of twist.

What's happening is that the twisted object uses many more triangles to define the shape then the basic object does. This translates to a more defined shape in the rendered object as it has more datapoints to work with when it's rendered.

The downside is the larger amount of data required to define the object in the rendering engine on the client side.

As long as it's used sparingly for important detail objects, it should be fine. Twisting too many objects in a given area will give the video cards on client machines a workout similar to what happens with the wilder, fancy hairdoos.

Another thing to try besides twisting is to simply rotate the circular object a few degrees. This seems to make the object come into 'focus' sooner as you approach it without the extra complexity cost but is not as effective at the twist method (It's possible this may be video card dependant as well as they may handle the rendering differently on various hardware)
