Does anyone think it would ever be possible to have a 'Permanent Link' option to permanently link an object converting that object to only 1 prim, thus never being able to unlink it? Of course we would still want the regular link function too...any comments?
I think it would be great for things and don't see any reason why it can't be done, then again I don't know much about how prims work, but surley it can mesh an object all together somehow.
Anyways there are many reasons why this would be useful, one being we could rez our permanently linked object on our land to save prims, then we need to make changes we delete the permanently linked object, and edit the original object that is regularly linked. Then take a copy, permanently link the changes, and wala.

SL doesn't use mesh for objects the same way they do for avatars. objects are build dynamicly via numbers pluged into equations.

From: Nicole David But that doesn't mean we can't convert an object to one prim, right? Er, yes it does. A prim is a prim is a prim. a "permanent link" would still have to contain information for every prim in that object.

two prims, two bucks

2 prims will be two bits of info to download.. even when linked. Thus the 2 prim hit.
Just be glad we don't get charged by the tri.

From: Nicole David But that doesn't mean we can't convert an object to one prim, right? Prim is actually an abbreviation for "primitive" and it means the most "basic" shape a graphics engine can deal with. Think of prims as atoms, they're pretty indivisible, and if you put two or more together (link) you get a molecule (or object in SL). You cannot combine two atoms into one atom. Think of greek atoms here Anyone that wants to correct me and tell me that atoms can be split or combined, or that graphics engined deal with triangles, well it's only an analogy. K?
