Seamless wall??

My main problem is that I was helping a friend to build a wall using 10x10 flat panels side by side around their Land. However is there a way to make it seamless??

(And as a side question...she found a 20x20 panel somewhere....how could I possible reproduce that myself?)

THanks!

seamless? You mean positioning them correctly? or make the textures seamless?

20x20 prims and bigger are huge prims or mega prims. You can buy or get them here and there, but they are not really liked by linden, and supposed to cause lag.

If you build 'by the numbers', carefully entering prim position coordinates in the edit box, and if you use seamless textures to texture the panels, you can get pretty much seamless walls. They won't always be perfect, but nothing in SL is.

Your friend's 20 x 20 panel is one of the smaller 'megaprims'. Look in the Building Tips forum for a few threads on megaprims. In short, it's a prim that was created by exploiting a building glitch that no longer exists. The megaprims that exist in SL today can be copied and textured, but can't be re-sized. You can also use most of the typical "prim torture" techniques to alter them somewhat, which is why, though there's only about 16 base megaprims, there's over 140 of them available in sizes less than 256 M in any direction.

Megaprims are not officially supported in SL, and may cause problems in sim performance. Especially if they cross sim boundries or are physical. If found to cause problems, the Lindens will delete megaprims if someone complains about them.

Still, in some cases they can be used well. I made three 100 x 200 M 'football fields' in the sky recently, as sandbox building areas, using just two megaprims per platform (100 x 100 x 2). As far as I could tell, they have no impact on the class 5 sim they are in.

Oh and DON'T pay someone for megaprims! If you look around a bit, there are several places where you can get them for free.

The closest you get to seamless with basic panels is the "copy selection" function. Make sure you have "center copy" checked as well. Select your first prim, check "copy selection" and then click on the side of that prim that you want to copy to.

You also need a texture that tiles seamlessly as well....

figure out the positions for the pieces mathematically so that they touch perfectly, and texture it correctly and it should appear seamless. You can even use the samea texture cut up to make the wall one image.

I have a grudge against all building tools.. if I find out something was made using them, I boycott that creator XD I don't buy that much that isnt clothes tho...

But seriously, why not just learn to do it yourself? I personally find it more rewarding, and in my mind adds value (personal, not just monetary) to the things you create.

People who buy your creations are paying for your creativity and effort that went in to it.. I for one don't want to pay for something I think would take about 5 hours when they only took 1 or 2 because they used every tool in existance... its silly.

Just my thoughts..demi-rant, sorry...

Tools exist to be used.

If you can do without, good for you.

You cannot. But she can give you a copy.

im fairly new to building but slowly becoming addicted :).
i find lining up easier just by placing them as close as possible, type in the co ordinates and if needed just move them 1 decimal piont at a time,
patience makes for wicked builds :))
would be nice if i could link more than 4 10 x 10 prims though ;)
