So I finally went premium. I checked the available first time land lots and didn't like any of them but discovered one next to a friends store so I bought it and sold it to my friend at a profit but less than market (I suspect) value.
I then bought a nice 1024m2 lot in an area I liked and went house shopping. Doing a search on Prefab houses gave surprisingly few results but I did find one I liked. A nice three story with a built in hot tub. Set-up was a breeze once I got out from under the house (having rezzed it on top of myself with the ground floor half way into the ground) and there were only two problems.
The teleporter between the ground floor and the 1st floor teleports me to the right height but in front of the house not in it and when I clicked the sliding back doors they headed east and west and disappeared into the trees and hills in those two directions never to be seen again. If someone can give me an idea about how sliding doors and teleporters work I would be pleased although, to actually fix the problem, I will contact the house maker.
The one thing I am totally clue-challenged about is a basement. I would like a basement, underground, that can be accessed via teleporter. Can I just buy/make a "room", slap a teleporter in it and stick it beneath my house? Thanks
Tess

The house creator should have given you instructions on what to do with the teleports and sliding doors.
Teleports usually must have the destination coordinates typed into the script in order for them to tp you to the correct location. Instructions for this are often inside the TP script.
The sliding doorst that I am familar with must be "reset" when they are rezzed in a new location, otherwise when you click on them they will return to the coordinates withing the sim, matching the coordinates of the last location where they were installed.

If your house is modifiable, and preferably copyable, and has large blocks for a basement, you can experiment with hollowing them out and setting a target for a teleport.
You would need to set your house as high as you can to allow the ground to be lowered underneath so that the ground will not intrude into your "basement"
Griefers can still see your dot, but they don't know how high you are and will probably look upwards. However, sensing devices can still pinpoint your position including height but should not be able to penetrate to your basement position.
Not sure where the light comes from.
Have fun in the basement.

the only problem with building basements via lowering the terrain and then having prims cover them is that the "walls" of the basement screw with the camera.

From: Tess Whitcroft when I clicked the sliding back doors they headed east and west and disappeared into the trees and hills in those two directions never to be seen again. Can you program in a relative position. +x to open -x to Close. (depending on the direction of what way the door is facing. it could be x. I am just starting. I made a door from a torus where if you touch it, the Hole Size opens. Touch it again the Hole Size becomes zero and closes up. my next door I want to have like the Apature on a Camera. Very scifi. I just started and I have not been around much. But I do want to learn.

For the basement you'd need to modify the land, which is done by right clicking the land and selecting "edit land". What you'd want to do is select an area -smaller- than the actual house footprint and then lower the land -- then walls and a floor would be put down there to make a room and the house put back on top to cover it. However, it's not always easy for someone new to these land tools, especially if you're near water level (in which case you might want to raise all the land first, or build underwater with a lot of lighting)... I usually have to tinker with it a lot to get it right and now wonder why I didn't just use skyboxes instead And as far as privacy and lag reduction goes, high in the sky is actually better... but for the sake of realism, basements and castle dungeons are a must have for many people anyhow!

From: ed44 Gupte Griefers can still see your dot, but they don't know how high you are and will probably look upwards. Incorrect. A 'dot' means the individual so mapped is close to your height. An upright 'T' means they are above you. An upsidedown 'T' means below. Griefers know, to a fair degree, exactly your altitude quite easily.
