I searched for any info about "How To" Create a working HUD. I have found nothing but a location to go see an Example. I would think someone has some info (like L Labs) on how to use them.

What good is having a feature only a few can use it? :(

Basic HUD How-To

Hi Coos! :)

HUD objects in Second Life are identical to any other object, and the process used to create them is the same, the only difference being what you do with the object once you have created it.

Try the following..
  1. Create a new prim and rename it HUD object.
  2. Right click and then 'Take' the prim.
  3. Go to your Objects folder in your inventory.
  4. Right-click the HUD object and select Attach To HUD > Center
The prim you just created will appear in the center of your screen. You can edit it while attached to your HUD, change textures, add scripts, etc. However you cant create new prims and link them to it while its attached so it's best to at least design your HUD attachment while it's 'in-world' then take it into your inventory, attach it to the required HUD point and then move, scale and rotate it to fit the area you want it to occupy on screen.

Hope that helps,

Sun.

edit: If you need another example to look at I have a freebie HUD calculator which you can find at my store in Tawhaki

I once created a simple HUD that works like a flash animation, each prim worked like a button and had a script inside, the script sends message to other prims (using link message or by ID please it is not much of a good idea flooding channels with it).

And you attach the prim at your HUD, mostly commands were triggered by touch event
