I used to use it extensively before I bought Zbrush, and have made several things with it, including this goldfish: The fish is a good example of what Archipelis is good for: slightly blobby organic shapes. Moving away from the "create a plump rhino" sort of thing, what I really found it good for was freehand sketches of an organic shape, to be imported into Wings3D (or whatever) to be finished. My basic workflow was: sketch the outline in Archepelis, use the SL exporter to create a BMP file, decrease the map size to a 64x64 in Photoshop, then import into Wings3D. I found the texture maps it could create also useful as a starting place. With a few exceptions, you are not going to be able to do everything in Archipelis. But for the price, it is a useful tool for creating some shapes that would take a lot of fiddling to make otherwise. And for making cute round critters in fifteen minutes, it can't be beat
