i'm trying to edit/resize some modifiable prims. they are linked, so i check the "edit linked parts" box. however, when i'm editing them, the prims all seem to go back to the original size. what am i doing wrong? should i unlink the prims before editing, and if so, how do i do that? any help would be much appreciated!

i have had this problem i think it has to do with the root prim,
I unlink them and edit (ctrl-shift-L)
make sure you are working on a copy you can mess it up unlinking some times.
and before you un link see what one is last linked
(the one with gold highlite when seleted is last linked) and select that last before relinking
(ctrl-L) even if you drag select all then hold
shift unselect and reselect the last linked.
