Hey all. I want to basically make a slice of a sphere with parallel edges, one of which is not through the centre of the sphere. Basically something like this:
----- -------- ----------- -------------
Imagine there is another side to this...it doesn't format like I want it too.
It's not a cone shape, as the sides need to be curved. I'd just use a half sphere, but that doesn't have the affect I want. Ideally to, I'd be able to stretch it to make it oblong.
Is there some way to do this?

Embed the cut sphere in a cut cylinder at the same coordinates of the sphere to form the parallel sides?
Are you making edam cheese?

You could use a combination of dimple and cut to get that result. However, dimple will make a conical impression in the sphere rather than a clean slice like cut does.

I'd use a combination of the two above methods - dimple the sphere and use a cylinder to make the flat ends. EDIT: Pointy bits can be removed using transparancy.

Thanks for the pointers. I actually figured it out myself almost immediately after posting.
