OK, so it has been a while since I've looked at PERMISSIONS. I've searched the Knowledge Base, the Forums, and Google and cannot find an ansswer. It's probably a dumb question, but can one of you knowledgeable folks help me?

When I create an object and look on the "GENERAL" tab in the edit window I see (to the right of Permissions)

B:VMCT I assume this is the BASE permissions

O:VMCT I assme this is the current owner permissions

G: I assume this is Group permissions. It is blank as the object isn't deeded

E: I assume this is EVERYONE as it changes if I check ALLOW ANYONE TO COPY

N:V T I assume this is NEXT OWNER

F:VMCT This is the one I don't understand. What is it, and is it new?

I haven't found info on the "F:VMCT" portion anywhere and can't guess what it might be. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Are you using a non-standard viewer? There's nothing even remotely like what you describe on the General tab in any viewer I've used.

It is the standard 1.23.4 viewer.

It's debug permissions, an invaluable function.
VMCT = Move, mod, copy, transfer.

I always forget what F is - I'll spork my brain a little :-D

Debug gives you the real permissions on any object that might've been in inventory when perms were changed and not have the true permissions applied until rezzing.

Is it the "F:" part that is Debug permissions? If so, how do I set them, or unset them?

No - I was telling chosen it is the debug permissions function that you are looking at.

I need to think about it for a minute - that F always eludes me.

In the back of my mind, I keep coming up with something about "Flags" whether they have been set or not, but it doesn't make any sense to me.

I think it's Friends with object rights.

AHHHH, I found it:

F = Full/Folded - The permissions of the object as a whole, including all permissions of the object's contents. For example, a copyable object which has a no-copy item added to its contents becomes non-copyable as a whole because it's restricted by the no-copy content item.

THANK YOU everyone for geting me headed in the right direction!!! I don't know what I would do without these forums and all of you!

I need to write that down somewhere:

FULL

Or write it 100 times on a blackboard.

Thanks for the info, Osprey. That does indeed sound useful. I'll have to take a look.

Is there a way to edit these permissions?

They are the same permissions, not different ones. You change the little tickboxes as always and the results are shown in Permissions and debug permissions - it's just that debug permissions shows what the real permissions are when the object permissions have been changed in inventory. Permissions may be set in inv but not show until the object is rezzed, which is why we have debug permissions.

...which begs the question, if the debug query can find the correct info, why can't they fix the inventory display to do the same?

Well, debug perms sort of tells the future - since the permissions have been marked to be changed on rez but haven't yet taken effect if the object hasn't been rezzed.

If perms said the future on-rez perms we'd need debug perms to tell us what the current perms are.

Just guessing, but it might be too computationally expensive to check this every time the inventory is displayed, but reasonable to do it when asked for a given object in inventory.

Well, I think actually the debug and ordinary perms tell the same story except in odd cases where there's a bug, when they can enlighten.
