Hello all! I'm quite new to SL (this is my first post in the forums) and have learned TONS from reading your posts. But I haven't found any (sorry if there's one and I missed it...just point please) that answer my specific question. Is it possible to apply different textures to different surfaces on the same prim? For instance, I might want the bottom of one prim to have a ceiling texture and the top of the same prim to have a floor texture. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!! (btw..expect to see me lurking here often in the future

Hello Ticious. Welcome to SL. The way to apply textures to specific surfaces is simple, although it does tend to elude most new people. I didn't find it myself until someone explained it to me in my first week. On the editor, there's a radio button called "Select Texture". When it's turned on, you can select individual surfaces. When it's off (default), you'll select whole prims at a time. So, to apply different textures to two different sides of a prim, turn on Select Texture, click the first side you want to affect, apply your texture, and then repeat for the next surface. If you want to affect multiple surfaces at the same time, you can select as many as you want by shift-clicking them. If you want to de-select an already selected surface, simply shift-click it again. Also, just so you know, there's a fast way to apply a texture just to one surface simply by dragging the texture from your inventory onto the surface you want to change. This is the fastest way to do it for just one or two surfaces, but if you want to do any more than that at any one time, Select Texture is faster. Happy texturing.

Oh my goodness!!!! You're right, that seems so easy now..I know exactly what radio button you mean, but I thought it was just for aligning textures. OMG I have soooo much to learn....
Thank you very much for your quick answer, I really appreciate it!

Just a side note for Chosen's excellent-as-always reply: If you do the above method with a texture that isn't set to allow copy permissions, the texture will disappear from your inventory and become an item in the contents of the prim. In most cases you want to ensure that you have full permissions for any textures that you want to use.
