So I created an object in Rhino, used the Obj-Sculptie program. It gave me this bitmap file

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b357/GhostDog151/Candle.png

except is said Candle.obj.bmp

it said second life could not read. So I fixed it and made it an actual bmp file.

Dropped it into SL

It's supposed to look like

Could somebody tell me what I am doing wrong?

Did you flip the texture horizontally?

Do I flip it in a graphics program?

I assume you are using obj2sculpt.exe by Cindy Crabgrass? I have been getting similar maps for OBJ files created from Zbrush. Look closely at your map. The area outside the central circle is not smoothly graded. There are some pixels "missing" from the map and the "good" pixels need to be patched together. The "bad" pixels are all the same shade of green. I have found a good way to patch the good pixels in photoshop.

Also you will get the best results from obj2sculpt.exe if youhave exactly 1024 polygons on your model.

I have uploaded a patched map. It is still not exactly smoothly graded. From here you can try blurring in a paint program.

Thanks. They totally need the inworld sculpting tools soon. This is making my non-very artistic brain hurt.

LOL, I had the same reaction to blender and as someone else quipped, "Numbers make mongo angry".

I've heard good things about this lathe program. I have not tried it as it is windows only and I am on the mac. You could make your candle holder with it and I heard it was easy to use.

I got it :) Cindy Crabgrass makes a .3dm exporter. Saved me a bunch of steps. Life is good now......

Now if only I didn't suck at modelling.

Nevermind about that. At this rate the way sculpted prims are made can go "F" themselves.
