You can move a house below ground, but it'll be quite useless, since the only way to get your avatar inside it is to sit on a prim or a chair.

Most people just dig a hole and cover up the top to look like the ground. Some of the ground textures are in your inventory default library which you can use to camo the top.

You could put the house there, but you couldn''t get there yourself.

What I have seen is people creating a hole in the terrain, putting the house in it, then covering it with prims that mimic the surrounding terrain.

Thanks - was hoping to slide it into a hillside just above the water, I've already terra-formed the land as low as it will go, so, can't dig a hole :(

While you can sink a foundation below the surface, the only way to make a usable space below the ground is to dig an open-topped pit, and cover the top with prims. If you just slide the house into the ground, the part below grade is 'full of dirt', and you can't go there, even by riding a prim into it.

As you are saying you've already hit your terraform limits for the sim you're in, you can't do what you are asking about on that parcel.

You would need to move to a mainland sim or one on a private island, where the terraform limits are more reasonable. The 'new mainland' sims with a +/- 4M terraform limit are worthless for any project that needs a basement or similar below-grade building.

Thanks for the quick response everyone, appreciate it, and will work on a different approach when the grid comes up *sigh*

our sime has found a nice way on that, we got houses that are actually under water instead of ground
