As I walk the world looking for fun and adventure I often come across people selling things. This I understand. However, what I do not understand is how they manage to create an item that I can test out, drive around, sail or otherwise use before I buy.

How do they do that?

There are a variety of ways... most involve putting in some sort of self destruct script into the object which can operate on a variety of methods, like noting the time and date, and after an interval imploding... or checking to see if the object has been moved from inventory into the world more than once. :)

For vehicles this is especially easy as most at least attempt to put some form of a guest mode in the vehicle.

For these, to create a demo you can play with before you buy all we have to do is set the guest flag to true all the time, and set it to die when you get up and as temp on rez as a backup.

Really the ability for Anyone to ride on any object is the natural order of things in SL. We have to code against that in order to prevent people other than the owner to do so.

Did a little testing.. apparently the TEMP_ON_REZ attribute is delayed until whomever is sitting on the object dismounts as well.

Of course, they need to sit on the newly rezed demo copy within a minute or so... or it'll vanish. :)

Something this cool is probably in my inventory somewhere but I do not know what it is commonly called. Any search suggestions?

Thanks for the replies.
