I am pretty much a newbie in SL still and very inexperienced at building - my first prim dress was like an alien life form with a mind of its own before I tamed it! But anyway, here's my suggestion...

A weekly competition in which a building challenge is set. The challenge might be like my previous flag question - to make the best, unscripted, flag. Challenges should involve no more than 10 prims say and results should be for the SL community to use at will - that way they will lead to overall improvement of stuff in SL. The winner (dunno about a prize!?) should set the next weeks challenge.

Similar thing is done on a photography forum I use - it inspires me and makes me go out with my camera...

There used to be an event held every week or two called Blitz Build where up to 12 contestants would have 45-60 minutes to build based on a topic chosen on the spot. There was a 50 prim limit and everyone, guests included, would vote on their top 3 favorites. Prizes were 500, 300 and 100, and everyone got a free prize just for compteting (sometimes, usually it was only the top 3). I won only once with a scene of the world being blown up by warfare

I am aware that the Shelter has building contests a couple of times a week. I haven't participated yet, but it sounds like what is being asked for.
