I'm super new, soo yeah. But I was wondering if you had to purchase land to build skyboxes, or do you just need a premium account or what?

You can rent anywhere. You only need premium if you want to buy some space in a mainland region (but you can still rent from someone on the mainland with a basic account). Private regions are separate from the whole premium thing, you would rent (or "buy" and pay a monthly fee) right to the region's independent owner.

Premium only gives you _permission_ to buy and keep up to 512 square meters on the mainland, you would still need to go out and buy it (and would have to pay bigger monthly fees if 512 wasn't enough).

Oh, and there always the sandboxes, free all the time, if you just want to build stuff and don't need a space to leave it set up.

Thanks, but my confusion is whether or not i can build in the sky, because I'd really love a skybox, but do you have to rent or purchase the land below your skybox to build and there and be able to make it so the skybox is yours absolutely or in other words, have it so the skybox remains where you built it?

Land rights start at the ground and go all the way up. So if you want the right to build in the sky, you need to have the right to build on the ground, whether obtained by renting or buying.

Yes... When you rent or buy a parcel you are paying for access to the 'ground' and all the 'sky' above it. Even a skybox rezzed at 4000 meters up is considered a part of the parcel below it, will be using the primcount available, and will be subject to any return or autoreturn rules set by the parcel owner.
