I just bought Hexagon during their 1/2 price sale last month, and have been trying to figure out how to fly it. I'm new to 3-D modelling programs, though, so experience and intuition aren't getting me where I want to go very fast. I had the idea that I could import the SL avatar OBJ files and use Hexagon to create mannequins I could use in world. Importing is a snap, and I can tweak a model in Hexagon all right. I can't figure out how to save it in a format that I can upload to SL as a sculpty, though, and the manual isn't much help. Am I trying to do something impossible, or have I just failed to stumble on the right combination of buttons?

The avatar mannequin mesh is not directly suitable for use as a sculpty. Sculpties require perfect UV space and very specific topology. The avatar does not even come close to fitting the bill on either count.
The best you can do, whether you're using Hexagon or any other program, is to use the existing mannequin mesh simply as a guide, and then build your sculpty objects right on top of it. Each body part will consist of several individual sculpities. The end result will be something that looks like an avatar, but is not at all constructed like one.
If your thought was to use the model to demonstrate clothing or skins, that's not going to happen. If you just want some statues of avatars, though, it will work fine.

Thanks, Chosen. I was afraid of that. I practiced on a dozen throw-away vases and then actually did start to carve a mannequin from a cylinder--- getting very frustrated but learning a lot of practical lessons along the way. I was hoping that I could short-cut the process by importing the avatar mesh. I'll add that to my trash heap of good ideas gone bad.
