This will require a bit of explanation..

I am building a house, and ran into time constraints. I hired a "builder" (name withheld) to come and drag copies of the linked house pieces up to the next level, creating the next floor. For whatever reason, she felt the need to take ownership of the entire house- and then forgot to relink her pieces and sell all of them back to me. I then asked her to come back over and sell the pieces to me so I could finish the house. She did so, but did not set the "next owner can modify" bit. So now I'm stuck with a house that is very sloppily aligned and with no suitable textures on the second floor. I cannot modify any prim in the entire house. Is there any way to get control of the prims back, or do I have to destroy the house and start all over again? This was a very complex build, and I'm not looking forward to starting from scratch again.

I would welcome any insight or advice. Thank you.

contact your "builder" and have them fix the permissions for you. if they're scamming you, remember SL's first rule of business: BUYER BEWARE.

hmmm i faced this problem once on a much smaller scale (thankfully) when i granted permissions to somebody who did a drag-copy a little too early.

if she sold you the original set, and they were no mod, you may be screwed. You as next owner cannot mod the perms, and even if you can transfer back to her, she would still be "next owner" and not be able to mod it either.

I sure hope someone tells you different, but your only hope may be to get together with your "builder" and a Linden Lab liason who might be able to override the permissions if both of you agree and yours are the only names on the prims

and in future, perhaps hire someone a little more conscientious :D

good luck!

in the worst case scernio (as you will eventually find out im good at finding) dont level it just replace it prim by prim, that way you dont have to start from scratch atleast you have a model to repace the leggo bircks in

Aberdon, I would ask the builder to come back and re-set the house for you, correctly this time. If you're paying for a service, you should get what you're paying for.

If that doesn't work, consider hiring a new builder.

For whatever reason, she felt the need to take ownership of the entire house
This may not have been her choice, as it's the way SL works when you copy a friend's prims. I suppose you formed a friendship and allow modify rights, or you set all your first-floor prims to allow mod/copy rights. Either way, the copies will be owned by her, not you.

More than likely, she drag-copied the first floor to the second floor. This situation makes the second floor your prims, and the first floor prims would be rezzed as hers.

How about this...

I am sorry you had a bad experience with your building project. Here is what I can offer without charge as a gesture of good will from Buck Spinnaker Enterprises...

I can take a look at your home and decide if replication is feasible and rebuild it with proper permissions. That failing, or if you prefer in any case, I will offer you any one of our prefab homes also without charge. Our prefabs come standard with mod/copy/no transfer permissions.

Quickest way to get in touch with me is IM

Cheers,

I couldn't just let the thread die without giving some sort of epilogue. I spoke at length with Buck Spinnaker and Daira Lumiere, who are not only very skilled, but very nice as well.

Not only did they completely rebuild the house perfectly from snapshots of the old one, but they fixed problems with the design I didn't even know I had! I cannot acclaim their work highly enough, nor express how much I appreciate their patience with a slightly unhinged individual. They are my contractors of choice from here on, and I will recommend them to anyone who needs work done.

Thank you again, Buck and Daira!

PS- I'd also like to mention that they rebuilt the whole house, from scratch, for less than half of what I was quoted for the cut and paste job on two floors. I was totally speechless, and am still floored by their professionalism.

You folks went above and beyond good customer service into the category of exceptional. Wish more builders were as ethical, well not only builders but all job categories.
