I had seen an advertisement for a non-virtual architectural building set which I am now in need of but cannot find through the obvious channels (google, amazon, etc.) and was hoping that it rang a bell with someone here. It isn't Lego® or similar but perhaps more like a physical instantiation of SL or perhaps more The Sims 2 for realspace.

I appreciate any pointers, guesses, or vague, half-remembered keywords.

Hm... the "Anchor Stone Building Block" come to mind. Their website is at http://www.anker-stein.de/index.php/language/gb

I don't know if this is what you are looking for, but in the UK Hawkin and co do a set with tiles and bricks and mortar which is about £40? You can find it at:
http://www.hawkin.com/rkmain.asp?PAGEID=20670&STK_PROD_CODE=05098

Apologies if this isn't at all what you were after.
Added: there is a Universal building set and a Castle building set also on the site. The manufacturer of the building set also does a lot of accessories etc. My daughter loved hers when she got it for Christmas a couple of years ago :-).

Thanks for the suggestions folks, they all had their merits, but this was what I had seen and then lost.

Incidentally, in my search, I also came upon this set in a real store which seemed like more frustration than fun, sort of like a house of cards where adding a wall causes the others to fall apart.

The Fragile. As the house falls apart, a new Nine Inch Nails song plays. :(
