I brought in a sculpty last night, a nut and bolt, looked great, played with it, stretched it, edges were perfect, log in this morning and the shape changed and is distorted, figure had to wait for my rez to finish, nope, the beautiful nut and bolt from last night was left out on the land and this morning its all deformed. Anyone know a reason why a sculpty image would change its shape 24 hrs later?

zoom in an out a few times (slow). sometime LOD acts funny or doesn't update as it should... you could try clearing cache before next login too if it looks to be a corrupted image.

There are still some problems with sculpties, LOD, and lossless uploads. Haven't tried the latest RC to see if it was fixed, but the things Void mentioned usually work.

yeah this is a diferent problem i never ran into before with sculpties. For sure a mystery. but still same thing, i upload image, apply image to my sculpty, beautiful nice sculpty, move it , zoom it ect. np., log out and back in, little elfs came in and chewed it up hehe usually a bad upload image is chewed up when first brought in, not liek this though, where one minute its fine, log out and sculpty changes permamnently deformed, and friends have witnessed this and scratch there head like i do hehe.
Anyways just wondering if anyone has ran into this problem, or could it be havoc from what im hearing to, not sure.

Do other people see it the same way you do, before and after?

From: Anthonys Republic I brought in a sculpty last night, a nut and bolt, looked great, played with it, stretched it, edges were perfect, log in this morning and the shape changed and is distorted, figure had to wait for my rez to finish, nope, the beautiful nut and bolt from last night was left out on the land and this morning its all deformed. Anyone know a reason why a sculpty image would change its shape 24 hrs later? I had this happen to me at least 50 times I spent two weeks working on one prim partly because of this issue. The shape I was trying to make is really not what sculpties were made for anyways (very hard flat smooth edges and corners), and I was still trying to learn how to get the effect I wanted, but invariably the next day it would look like utter crap. I finally just said 'screw it' and started using the libsecondlife lossless image uploader (an old version since newer versions are buggy as crap) to see if it would alter that behavior. It works better anyways, and doesn't seem to suffer from that problem : that prim shape I was working on has been stable for weeks now, haha.

well thats good to know.Yes other people see it happen to my shape as well, it seems when its first brought into the game its fine, second you tp out or log out and come back its deformed. now even if i make a new sculpty and put the image map on it, the second time around using the image map it will be deformed as well, so it seems only the first time you upload the image does it work, just cant log out or leave your sim if you wish it to stay Reason its a big problem is because you could be building away and not know what it will look like when you relog in, but soemthing odd is taking place, because SL does reconize the shape at first, it just cant matain it. Im thinking its the exporter out of wings 3d, but thats not the case because other items came in fine and stay ok and others come in messed up and stay messed up, but to have it come in fine and then later mess up makes me think its on the SL side, not so much the exporter.

I'd be willing to bet the problem has to do with how SL uploads and stores textures. Every texture you upload actually has what can be described as 4 versions of itself stored on the server. These 4 versions are progressive levels of detail. Notice how when you encounter a new image for the first time in SL, you first see it blurry, then a little more clearly, then a little clearer than that, and then in it finally focuses. This allows you not to have to just stare at nothing while the full-res version of the texture loads. The lower detail versions load first, so you can see something during the process.
Under ideal conditions, all 4 versions of the image are written right away. Sometimes, though, it can take as much as 24 hours or so before everything finalizes. I don't know why exactly, but it happens. In that circumstance, your texture can look proper to you at first, since the full resolution version is in your local cache, or at least in your local active memory, but once you log out for a bit and come back, the local version you had on your end is gone, and you now see the more blurry version that exists on the server. Come back a day later though, and the texture will look as it should.
It's possible that with the messed up sculpties you guys are talking about, the sculpt map textures are undergoing this same slow finalization process. They look OK at first because you have the full resolution version of the map image already in memory on your end. But when you log out and come back later, everything reloads from the server, and you're now able to see the unfinished version. If that is what's going on, then the problem should clear up by the same time the next day.
If that's not it, then I don't know what to tell you. I've never personally experienced this problem with sculpties myself. But I tend to overlap vertices like crazy on sculpties, to make them as LOD-proof as possible, so maybe that's the difference. It's conceivable that with enough vertex overlap, even a blurry, unfinalized sculpt map could look just fine in-world.
