I'm writing a book called "The Granster's Book of Second Life World Records" and I'm trying to find the worlds smallest prim.
Vincent Nacon has made a Torus at 0.00001m x 0.00001m x 0.00003m
Anyone have a smaller prim?
Since this is a building tip thread anyone what to know how he did it?

That's pretty tiny...
I think these are done by a dimpled sphere/prim...never use them though. I really should learn to use tiny prims...some of my objects need them.

Argent Stonecutter has a mono-filament sword thingy that has an *extremely* thin "blade", and I've managed in the past to make prims so small that I've permanently lost them as soon as I zoomed out even one mousewheel turn.
Recently, I wrote a program to scale sculpt maps for me so that I could have a few prims thinner than 0.01m, and as an experiment I made a couple of staggeringly small sculpted prims that were reasonably faithful to the original shape with less loss of precision than I had expected. But I never took it far enough to see just how small I could go, as I imagine that you could go small enough to be a single vertex using that method but you'd sacrifice all shape information.

I dunno about extremely small, but you can cheat to make extremely thin... two prims textured on the facing sides, transparent on all others.... visibly smaller than the smallest prim you can make... (I dunno if it registers as a width, logically it wouldn't, but this is SL where you can look between 'seamless' objects)

Here is what Vincent Nacon said about his super small prim:
I've made a Torus at 0.00001m x 0.00001m x 0.00003m (had to use GL Intercepter to grab the prim model in 3D Max Studio to measure it.)
Make torus. Path Cut B=0.98 E=0.99 Hollow=95.0 Hole Size X=0.05 Y=0.05 Profile Cut B=0.03 E=0.05 Taper X=1.0 Y=1.0 Radius=1.0
--Beware, after you set the scale, don't deselect it. You will NOT be able to pick/grab that prim again because it's too small to be selected in SL. It gets smaller than a pixel in your viewer. You will need a Parcel Owner to return the object via Objects list.--

Hm curious, this didn't work for me. I'd say this doesn't qualify since it's just not true. At least any more. I couldn't set Path Cut to those values, they apparently have to be no more than .02 apart. Setting them to .01 apart was ignored.

Well, I enjoy using prim torture to make things either actual size, or to overcome normal limitations.
Among my other items, I've made:
- A gem that measures approximately 6mm x 6mm x 5.75mm, using 8 prims. As this is meant for an attachment, being so small, but prim-heavy isn't much of an issue, so long as it's not overused.
- My thinnest routinely-made prim is .2mm thick. This is almost paper-like anyway, and gets used for that purpose.
Once you get to using the technique, prim torture can SERIOUSLY help things out when you think they're impossible.
These may not be record-worthy, but still fun to do. >:3

make sculpted prims with vertexes at the same places. The renderer just SKIPS colinear polygons. You cant even klick those, as their surface is a line or point with 0.0 width. The line only shows in edit mode.
smallest resolution if a sculpted prim would be 0.001/256 = 0.00000390625
And havok only supports a resolution of 0.01 for ALL sl prims for now. sooo pointless.

From: Ollj Oh And havok only supports a resolution of 0.01 for ALL sl prims for now. sooo pointless. dunno how you figue that, since prim paper is 2% of that size, and while its hard to see an edge difference it can be seen compared to sandwiched textures which are effectively zero width I use prim paper all the time for gifts ( I give pictures on them ) at most distances you won't render the edge, but if zoomed all the way in, it can be seen

another way i read in another thread is the twist option. try this:
rez a torus, hollow it 5%. click select texture. shift click to deselect the outside of the torus, texture as desired. select the outer texture only, make it fully transparent. then on the params, twist both ends all the way in the same direction doesn't matter if it's pos or neg, as long as it's the same. then make the size as small as you can (.01) on all axis'. tada, you have a tiny ring. works the same for spheres, tubes and rings, not sure about cubes, prisms, or cylinders. but that's an easy way to get tiny chain links
ah, went in world and tried the cubes and stuff, it doesn't work as well because the ends don't meet each other like the other prims too
