I've been working on this stupid thing for hours, and now that I'm done with it it's falling apart. HOW DO I LINK THE PARTS?
I dont know why I cant figure it out, but for about 50 minutes I've been looking for a "link" button and I'm not finding one.
My sanity is slipping.

Ctrl L

If you are on a PC hit ctrl - L while selecting all of the objects you want to link, ctrl - shift - L to unlink.
Objects can only be linked if they are close enough together. If you are working on a building and your objects are more than 30m apart (if memory serves correctly), you can not link them directly, although there are some clever work arounds for this. The larger the objects, the further apart they can be and still be linked.
A neat trick for linking large objects that are far apart is to build at a smaller scale, link and then resize the linked object.

YIKES well I hope this'll make you happy, Jyoti. Look up at the top of your screen for the TOOLS menu, click on that and look for LINK. Shortcut is CTRL-L. (So it's not a button, but a menu item.) Happy linking!

Your quite welcome, but please consider a chair, or a door or some other inanimate object next time!

Another question: Is there a way to make them hold it right? Like, if it were a sword, for example?

From: Jyoti Petion Another question: Is there a way to make them hold it right? Like, if it were a sword, for example? I believe, but could be totally wrong that attachments (what you are building is an attachment for an avi if it is anagolous to a sword) need to be scripted to attach at a certain point on the avi and assume an orientation once they do so. You may want to check the scripting forum or repost there.

select the handle last then link, the last prim in a set is the parent, you will still have to ajust it in your hand but you wont be grabbing the blade
