With 1.15 a high pitched sound was added to the wind sound that plays when you create a prim.

I don't really like it...

EDIT: hm strange, I also hear it on collisions.
EDIT2 : It seems that not everybody hear it, so I recorded it : collision sound twice, then create prim sound twice.

No new sound here. I heard there was a sound like that in one of the beta versions. maybe some files got mixed up on your setup? Try wiping and reinstalling.

Well the sound was there before I got the beta (where the sound is also) plus there's no installation for the Mac OS X client.
Maybe someone know where the sound files are stored ? I couldn't find them.

Glitch?

Not that I claim any serious experience in the matter, but it really sounds to me more like a sound-playing glitch than an intentional change. This would explain why not everyone is getting it.

I listened to your m4a there, and you've definitely got something weird going on. It shouldn't sound like that. It actually sounds like something's clipping, perhaps overdriving your sound card. Have you changed any of your audio settings recently?

Maybe try turning down the sound in SL, and then turing up the sound on your speakers. If it is an overdrive issue, that would likely take care of it. You might also want to update your sound card drivers.

I doubt that it's anything with the sound files themselves, as I don't think they're actually stored locally. Did you ever rez a prim and then have to wait a few seconds to hear the sound? Happens to me at least once a day. If the sounds were local, I don't think that could happen. It seems silly that they wouldn't be local though, so who knows? If they're in there, they're not in any format that I recognize. Perhaps someone more programming savvy than I am could find them.

Anyway, if all else fails, try uninstalling SL, and reinstalling it. That should clear up any possible corruption you might have with any of your SL files. If it's still doing it after that, I'd definitely say something's up with your computer.

I never changed the audio hardware, I didn't change any audio settings soon before or after the update.

I did the volume change trick but it didn't help.
My firmware and OS are up to date. On Macintosh you quite don't deal with drivers.

Like I said there's no installation/uninstallation other than copying/deleting the application.
I still did it but it didn't help.

If it was coming from my computer all SL sounds and even all the computer's sounds would be affected.
To me this clearly indicates that the issue comes from the files themselves.

Did the persons who voted No also heard the sound in their client ? or just didn't like the recorded sounds.

I reported it as a bug on JIRA :

Hmm, it's been a while since I've used a Mac, and I've never owned one. I didn't realize they don't have dedicated sound cards. I just looked on the Apple website, and it looks like every single computer they make has integrated sound. Wow, that sucks.

Any machine that lacks dedicated tasked components (computer or otherwise) will always be more vulnerable to problems. I used to have an all-in-one integrated home theater, and when the CD player motor decided to die, I had to replace the whole damned thing. Had it been a component system, I could have just gotten a new CD player, and kept everything else. I'll never go non-component again with anything, as long as I can help it.

Anyway, I still think something's being overdriven in your audio. As Osgeld so eloquently pointed out, those particular sounds that you're having trouble with dip pretty far into the low register, particularly if you've got any sort of bass boost on your system, and that can be taxing on any audio hardware.

If it weren't for the fact that you're able to record the problem, I'd say it sounds almost exactly like you've got a blown speaker. Since we know it's not the speakers though, the next logical conclusion is that something's being overdriven somewhere in the electronics.

If it were an issue with the audio files themselves, then removing SL from your system and installing a fresh copy should have fixed it. Since it didn't, my guess would be that either the part of your hardware that handles those particular frequencies got fried somehow, or else the software that drives it is misconfigured. I'm not speaking out of any particular knowledge of the Mac, of course, just audio in general, so it's possible there is some sort of Mac specific quirk that's going on, but that wouldn't be my first suspicion.

Perhaps someone can offer some concrete info on whether those files are indeed stored locally or remotely (and if they are local, where are they). That would be the first real must-know in tracking down the problem.

Sorry I can't be of more specific help.

I've noticed the delay corresponding to the sounds loading, if they are on the server I could only hear a different sound than you if I was somehow getting another file, maybe an address IP matter - LL playing a joke on me ? :D

If it's not due to the files, then it's very weird since the change occurred very precisely with the update.
I've got an idea, can someone make a lossless recording of the 2 sounds and let me hear it ?
