If their centers are more than 32m apart, it's impossible. If they're closer than that, their sizes will limit the possible distance between them.
And sometimes, when linking more than 2 prims, the order in which they're selected or linked will make a difference. I've been able to link several sub-assemblies of prims together, then link the sub assemblies together, when just block selecting all of them at once failed. It's a bit of a voodoo art.

From: James Benedek you sure there is no script to connect them? Yes. Scripts are not magic. If they are too far apart, they are too far apart, end of story.

From: James Benedek you sure there is no script to connect them? Depends what you want to link them for. You could, for instance, have scripts that move one piece to it's new location when the other moves.

at that point though, you have other limits.. like the 96m scan radius, the 100m shout radius, etc. Of course you could have one prim EMAIL it's current coordinates to another prim.. and then have the second prim change it's relative position.. but really.. do you really NEED to be moving items in unison this far apart? (the minimum draw distance is 64m. Any build larger than 64m will be missing parts to those of us with low graphics settings standing ta one end.)

I had the same question about linking distant prims. Since it is not possible, let me explain why I wanted to do it and maybe someone can suggest a solution for my specific issue.
In a nutshell I have a property, a skybox 500 m above it, and a radio in the skybox. I want to be able to control the radio from the property as well as the skybox, preferably by clicking on a prim. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

What are the functions of the radio (and which do you want to control remotely)? It might be easiest to just duplicate the radio.

You'll need something like Rez Foo.

Well, you could always put an invisiprim in-between the 2 items needing to be linked. That cuts the distance in half. It just depends on your needs.

Heather, the easiest thing to do would probably be to have a series of relays that shout commands on a private channel, like: default { state_entry() { llListen(896,"","","cmd"  ; } listen(integer channel, integer name, key id, string message) { if(message) { llShout(896,"cmd"  ; } }

if you make the objects considerably smaller, but closer together (proportionally) and link them together, then take them into your inventory, once you take them out, you will be able to stretch them at the cornrer, but if you pull them past the grid that appears, you are able to extend past the limit, allowing a farther link.
only problem is, that if you take it into your inventory that size, they will unlink, but if kept in world, they will stay together...ive got a 10 story building, nearly 70 meters high, that ive done the same with, and as long as i keep it in-world, it stays linked, allowing me to more freely move it aroud

Aren't things like that prone to exploding if they decide to unlink though?

I was working on a 10m build and rec'd this 'link is too far' notice. If you can't link objects over 32m away, I wonder why I got this error?
