Thank you to all the groups who signed up to start themed communities. Let's just say we were WOWed by you all.
In a very difficult selection process we picked five themed communities and one alternate for territory in the new regions. The five selected are, Cyber Punk, Dark Wood, Oriental, Native American and Venice. We also selected Art Deco as a back up in case any of the other choices doesn’t work out. We are still hoping to have the new territories available on Monday but this may be delayed.
I will contact all the group leaders to set up times to talk over each groups plan and when they can take possession of the new land. These times ideally will be between 4 and 6 pst.
There’s been some question about whether all the groups who are part of the themed communities need to be open to everyone who wants to be a part of them. That is not a requirement. However, if a themed community wants to grow and expand into a new region then participation by a large number of residents will be essential.

It appears to me, after reading all of the proposals, that Deco was the only one that did not specifically mention gun, swords, or combat in it's proposal.
Is this the future of Second Life ???

Reread the proposal for Venice. I see things like Art and Opera and Cathedrals and "A spirit of acceptance will be promoted to all, residents and visitors" mentioned. Tracey - Come to Venice! I apologize. With my tear clouded eyes, I read the statement about the sewer system to mention combat. Again, I'm sorry.

The NAV proposal contained no reference to guns or fighting either.
Really wish you'd come and work with us, Trace.

I wasn't sure which thread to put this in. It applies to all the themed communities.
I was reading Jason's posts about a rail system (Jason, your rail system sounds so exciting!), and I had an idea that the themed communities and Linden may want to give some thought:
What about a transit system from one themed community to another? It could change style to match the upcoming community along the way. It would take people on a 'tour' through all the themed communities. If each community is going to have an entry gate, this would work particularly well.
Linden funded project on the buffers maybe? Of course, each community would have to agree to it. Maybe each themed community could have a mini team specifically to build their own transit system, each building from the community before theirs to their own. This way a style congruent with their community would be assured.
I'm picturing Gondolas to Venice, or stage coaches and wagon trains around the Native American and Western communities.
Just some ideas.

For any of you who have visited Primm Valley (formerly Stateline), Nevada, you know about this, and those who haven't, I'm going to explain There are 3 casinos in Stateline, Whiskey Pete's, the Primadonna, and Buffalo Bill's. They are on both sides of the interstate, and all owned by the same company, so they made a small-gauge train that runs a loop between the three. Each station is themed according to the hotel's theme, although the train looked like it is out of Buffalo Bill's theme (Gold Rush 1800's). Anyhow it allows people to get to all three casinos without having to walk or move their car. And it's free. I think this is what Kerstin is getting at, and I think it would be awesome. It would be cool for crossing sims also (I will also crosspost to Jason's thread).
