Hello all,

I'm new to second life and, as such, am trying to acquaint myself with the editing tools. Is there a way I can build in an offline demo/sandbox mode?

What's the best way to get building practice, do I need lots of land or can I just plop stuff down wherever I fancy?

I'd like a way to practice in private as the game world itself is a bit chaotic and not conducive to learning about how it works.

Any ideas?

First, welcome to Second Life Zante!

1. Your building must be done in SL.

2. The best way to learn is to do. Search for "Sandbox" in the search menu. Those are the only places you can build, unless you purchase your own land. All land is owned by someone, and if you build on someone's land you run the risk of being ejected and/or banned from the area. And it's just rude to start building on someone's land since they do pay for it. You don't strike me as a rude person :)

3. See #2 above. All you can do is rent or purchase some of your own land. Keep in mind there are limits to how many prims you can have on a piece of land...so if you do rent or purchase some property of your own don't forget that. But you can practice to your heart's desire without being interrupted.

One suggestion is search in "Places" for Ivory Tower of Prims. That is such a great resource for learning how to build.

Enjoy!

For around $1 a week (around $250 Lindens) you can rent a house with a prim allowance and build to your hearts content behind privacy windows and locked doors and everything else. You wouldn't be able to build anything big, but you could learn the tools in peace and quiet.

Hah, your neuro-linguistic programming won't work on me ; p

jk : D

Thanks for the advice, I've found a good bunch of sandboxes in which I can practice manifestation/building. I see what you're saying about littering, I was sure there must be a better way : )

Thanks again for the info!

If you asked, then obviously you didn't want to appear rude...ergo, you don't strike me as a rude person. If you strike me...then I'll have to reconsider my first impression of you :P

Anyways...glad you found some nice places to build! As land owner, it is frustrating when people decide to build in your garden. It's a major pet peeve of mine and I'm thrilled some residents ask!

Well have fun tormenting those little prims!
