The couple of times something like this happened to me I'd either missed my target and put the stuff in the floor, or I'd been messing with a multi-prim object and put it in a child prim rather than the parent (though I doubt that a rug requires more than one prim). But then I can be pretty dumb at times.

it's also possible that the region is taking it's sweet time showing items added to contents... happens to me a lot even on relatively good regions.

This makes it sound like there might be an llDie function call in one of the scripts you're using.

I'm not doubting you, but did you check to be sure you didn't accidentally push the rug into the floor? I can't count the number of times I have shoved a thin prim into a wall or floor while I was working on it. Go to the Tools menu and be sure that "Select only my objects" is turned off, then do Ctrl-3 and drag a selection frame around the area. If your rug is buried, it should be highlighted.

on a side note I've had certain sims temporarily eat items (they completely disappear I lose edit, etc) when modifying them... only to have them pop back into existence5 to 30 minutes later (seems to happen most ofetn when approaching minimum size on a prim)... had to stop building last week because of it..
