This proposal is revised for the theme to be Amusement Parks and Playgrounds. What was previously proposed below will be a part of the sim, but not all. Overall, the community will represent Amusement park type entertainment from the far past through the present and on into the future.

MEETING WEDNESDAY NIGHT
There will be a meeting Wednesday night for all interested parties, to solidify plans further, and to determine what resources we have, and what resources are still needed. My beach house on Clementina at 6pm pst. On the roof.

-------------
Here are some proposals for the other parts of the sim. If you are interested, please post your ideas or contact me.

1 - Carnival/Boardwalk. We respectfully request taking over the current Boardwalk area and expanding it. Rather than change it, it will retain its current Boardwalk theme and graphics and model designs. We will complete the existing builds, and add additional games and rides. Small shops and booths will be established in this area. We also request the models/textures for the former roller coaster, and any other models/textures that may be on-hand but not currently inworld that we may be able to make use of. This area will represent a past/present means of entertainment in the 'real' world.

2 - Original proposal. This will represent the expansion of past/present means of entertaintment to the leading edge of current day (with SL), and expanding on into the future.

3 - Playgrounds. These small areas will be distributed across the sim. There will be only a few, and will serve to balance the low-activity parks and high-activity amusement parks areas. Whereas the amusement park areas will have rides, the playground areas will have traditional activities such as swings, sliding boards, teeter totters, etc. These areas will be a reminder of entertainment in the times before technology or even electricity.

4 - 'Regular' Parks. This part of the theme will be incorporated throughout the sim. Parks with ponds, fountains, gardens, statues. Relaxing areas where people will meet and chat, rotating exhibits will be set up, and 'quiet' events will be held. Small carts selling small items (knick knacks, jewelry) will also be set up in these areas. These areas will serve as quiet spaces to balance with the busy activity of the rides and games in the amusement park areas. The will also serve to balance the sim physically to reduce lag by incorporating areas with fewer objects. Rather than being a 1/4 sim, these will be spread across the entire sim in strategic spots.

Post Your Interest Here:
Please post to this thread if you are interested, and include your primary area of skill, e.g., architecture, design, construction, modeling, texturing, texture creation, scripting, events, planning and management, etc.

If you are new and not sure yet where your skills lie, then post what area you are interested in (or just post that you're interested.

If you are interested in providing funding or other resources, then please post that or contact me privately.

Thanks,
Candie

Initial proposal:
The current themes and newly proposed themes are reality based or follow a current trend. Certainly nothing wrong with that - they are wonderful builds and ideas, and I admire the great work that has been done on them.

But I always have to be different (heh) so what I am proposing is that we have one community that seeks to express and display inworld SL's unique innovation.

The purpose of the community I'm proposing is to provide Second Life and its residents with a virtual playground environment for adults. (This community will be PG). The community will communicate to people that recapturing and freeing the child that is still within us is a valid, and even necessary, pastime. After all, isn't that where SL came from? A child who wanted to fly a spacecraft, growing up to develop a means whereby he could not only fly one, but build one from scratch.

This area will encourage residents, even challenge them, to play and then play even more. And it will make them think. Think about how dreams and fantasies can sometimes come true before your eyes, and that when they do, they're often much different - and much better - than you ever thought they could be. And they will be inspired to take that idea of the impossible becoming real before you, and become even more innovative in their contributions to the world.

This environment will be based on the things that children know are important, and that we adults often forget. Things like magic, wonder, the impossible just being matter of fact, and that blurry line where children are not quite sure if it's real or a dream. Harsh reality, violence, darkness, ugliness, sadness, and the mundane will have no place here. The theme will be one of whimsy and the future, dream and fantasy. The fantasy won't be wizards and fairies and mushroom houses which we see frequently, but things seen or read rarely or never before -- fantasies like an entire city floating above us in a hot air balloon... If the physical environment is successful, then people visiting the sim will feel relaxed, happy, thoughtful, and filled with the wonder and delight of childhood. A fantastical sight will await visitors around every corner. A means to run, jump, climb, fly, swim will be available transport in all areas of the world.

One of Second Life's most important successes is that it is the first means by which we can reawaken, construct, experience, and virtually fulfill the dreams of our childhood. This community, a virtual playground for adults, will convey and exemplify that success.

To help you further envision what this sim will look like, here are links to some pics of what sort of 'vignettes' you would encounter and 'play in' on the sim. Also, the sim would be ever changing, because when the last vignette is complete, the first will be completely replaced with an entirely new and different one, then the second, third, and so one. I'm still working through how the money aspects would work, but I've almost got it, and I do think it can work with the right people on the team.

I hope I've expressed this concept adequately. If you have any questions, please contact me. And if you're interested in becoming a part of the 16 core team members designing and constructing this community, please contact me.

I am in! Actually I was sort of starting that but hey yours is a little different. I am like rebuilding a Disney world sort of fantasy themepark where all your dreams and fantasies come true and maybe we can work together? Who know! :)

I really like the idea. I'm already part of another project, but I would really like some forests to play in.:)

Bump Bump Bump

Well, since I've abandoned my community project and joined this one, I just wanted to give this thread a bump so people can take notice. We had a meeting last nite and the whole theme sounds really promising. We're gonna have rides, games, a waterpark, a zoo, shopping, even possibly a resort area. Too many ideas to name. And we're sure to come up with more. So if you want to work on some fun stuff, join us. We need more scripters, builders, and especially more money for land. We're gonna have another meeting tonite at 7pst so be around. ;)

Last night's meeting was very successful, and again, my thanks to everyone who came out.

I went over an overview of the proposal, which we then discussed, reviewing the theme and design concept for the community. The group agreed on the basic elements, and agreed that the concept is viable. We discussed adding a water park, zoo, and housing to the above previously posted proposal.

Tonight we'll be meeting at 7pm PST to begin design of prototype physical layouts for the sim. These will be in the form of miniature models for the team to utilize as guides for ourselves, as well as for illustrative purposes with persons outside the team. There will be 2 models - 1 for a half sim and 1 for a whole sim.

We also discussed financial aspects of the project. The group as it stands can immediately purchase 1/4 sim. Group members were more than willing to work hard to gain more money, and I suggested some ideas on how to ethically earn large amounts of money in a short period of time. Also discussed how people with less than is necessary to acquire the requisite 1/16 of a sim can buddy up to pool their resources. I'm confident that the team can financially acquire 1/2 sim. But more discussion and planning will be necessary to determine if the team will be able to acquire a whole sim.

A question arose about whether team members can release their current homes and businesses, and temporarily move them to the new sim during initial construction. This would be a cost savings measure. Other community teams may wish to do the same, so an official ruling from Linden would be appreciated.

Brief discussions were held on such subjects as income sources from the completed project, distribution of profits, and team structure. All need further planning, research, and discussion.

One thing I needed to determine from the meeting was if all the basic elements necessary to go forward to the next step, and for a successful project existed. Toward the end of the meeting, I felt positive about this, and created a group named Amusement Parks. Five people joined*: myself, Dawson, Timberlyn, Pituca, and Archanox

(*Note to Ope - it wouldn't sound good if I said I'm glad you abandoned your other project lol. But I will say that I'm very glad you decided to join us. I was hoping you would. I'll send you an invite to the group today.)

The enthusiasm and motivation of this group is impressive. The excitement over the project is palpable and contagious. As Ope mentioned in his post, to make the vision a reality, we need more people on the team. A variety of talents and skills are needed, so if you're interested, I'm sure we have a place for you. Architects, designers, people who construct and assemble, modelers, texture designers and artists, marketeers, community relationship specialists, customer service reps, special events coordinators, event hosts, fund raisers, and I could go on. This is a large, complex, and challenging project, and what could be more fun than building amusement parks and playgrounds?

If you'd like to be a part of this project, please feel free to join us tonight (IM me for a LM), or IM me. Also my email is candyapple@eudoramail.com and feel free to contact me that way.

Thanks,
Candie
