you could try the Ivory Tower of Prims for building help. Its a self paced tutorial you just work through each station learning as you go

hmm well that helped me in the beginning learning how to build, make a flexi flag and deal with textures. My only other suggestion is to search it world for a place that offers kits with full instructions on building a certain item. Other than playing around for my own fun I guess I may not be the person that you need help from?
all my best

It's very hard to answer a wide-open question like yours, Dusty. It would be easier if you had a tighter focus on what you would like to build. Money is not the best motivation ... find something you like to do first, then figure out how to make it pay. I think the smartest thing you can do is to spend a lot of time wandering in SL and getting a feel for the sorts of things that people want, and the things that you find interesting. THEN, look through the stickies at the top of this forum and the Texture Tips forum to find links to tutorials to help you get started.

Frankly, most of us learned to build by simply experimenting. Find a corner of a sandbox to work in, and start playing with basic prims to see what all the Edit functions do. Go to a bunch of freebie spots and grab articles (clothing, furniture, vehicles, .... whatever) to study closely. See how other builders have made those things and try to do it yourself. Then, when you have more specific questions, come back here and dig through the forum achives and ask for advice.

Good luck!

If you want to learn to build, the Ivory Tower of Primitives, the Particle Laboratory, and the tutorial videos at the SL Wiki site are a great place to start.

For other ways to earn money you could check out the Employment Ops & Help Wanted section of the forum.

Yet another answer...

Dusty, being new to SL is a lot like being 14 years old. You don't really know enough yet to make a lot of money.

Some people come with lots of previous professional experience, and they can make a lot of money pretty soon, but not every one has that previous experience. If you did, you would see what to do.

So, I suggest you wander and explore for a few weeks. Go as many different places as you can and talk to as many people who will talk to you. After a few weeks, re-evaluate.

I know that a lot of people prefer the challenge of making all their SL income inside SL, and that is fine. What I do is treat SL as a vacation. I bring the money I earn in Real Life and change it for L$ in the money exhange. $20 US will go an amazing long way in SL.

Good luck,
lee

That's the best advice.

I started my SL business by making stuff for my wife and our homes. People liked what I made so I started selling things. Nothing I sell was made to sell, it was made for her. It started small, a few things here and there and now we make enough for our concierge level tier plus some. The "plus some" is for her clothes...

She was, is, and always will be my motivation.
