How big (in pixels) should a tatoo .gif be?... I want it to be large for a tatoo, it will cover my back. Tanks

It doesn't work like that. A tattoo works just like clothing; the texture file is mapped to your entire body. To put a large tattoo on your back, you have to place the design at the appropriate place on the texture.
Download the clothing template and experiment with it. Be sure you use the alpha channels properly as well...
