I've never been able to get the eyedropper tool to work in the color picker. What I usually want to do is pick up a color from the surroundings and apply it to a prim. The button hilites but it never picks up any colors. I did a search in the KB and there's nothing there about it, except in relation to picking up textures from other prims from within the texture picker window.
Does the color eyedropper work for anyone else?
Also, I'd much prefer to use my Mac's color picker which is more sophisticated than the one in SL. The KB says there's an option in the prefs General pane to do that but it isn't there. Did they take it out?

They moved that option to keep everyone on their toes. Now it is Advanced->UI->Use default system color picker

The color picker only works if the prim face you are pointing the eyedropper at is actually colored (as opposed to a texture).
There is an option in Advanced to "Show Color Under Cursor" which will show you RGB values, but it's a display only, you have to then type the numbers in the color picker manually.

At least under OS X, you can use the eyedropper from they system color picker and skip typing in RGB values.

Thank you all so much! This has been driving me nuts for a long time. Now I know what to do, and there's more than one option at that.
