Permissions Problem

A long time ago I made an item for a friend. I bought a helmet from a shop. I added one scripted prim to the helmet, linking it to it and gave it to my friend. About a year later he's asked me to modify the texture on the prim I added. Unfortunately, I don't seem to be able to do it any more. "Unlink" is not an option for the helmet, and if I have "Edit linked parts" checked and try to edit my prim, I still can't modify. (I can't touch the texture or the script.)

Any suggestions?

Well first off if you gave it your friend as "no mod" then no one will be able to edit the helmet ever again, not even you.

Second, if the helmet is modifiable, then your friend needs to grant you modify rights in the friends list by checking that 3rd box on the right if he wants you to be able to mess with it.

well the creator is still the original creator and the owner is still me. don't think my friend can change anything.

How can the owner still be you if you gave the item to your friend? Are you saying he's given it back to you, or did you never actually give it?

If you gave it to him, he's the owner, and whatever next-owner perms you originally applied to it are now set in stone. If mod permission was granted, then your friend should be able to edit the object. In order for you to edit it, he'll have to grant you mod rights, via the friends list, as Briana said.

If he's given it back to you, then next owner permissions are potentially even more of an issue. If you gave it to him with mod permission, but then he unchecked the mod box before giving it back to you, it will now be unmodifiable forever. Every time an object changes hands, there's opportunity for permissions to become more restricted.
