I'm hoping someone can explain why objects rez at the height above ground they do.

I have 2 very similar objects. I rez one, and it's just above the ground. I rez the other beside it, and it's about half a metre above the ground. No matter what height I adjust them to, when I take them and re-rez, they appear again at the same relative heights.

I'd like both of them to be the same height, as when I put them on my vendor, which is like a pedestal, they are appearing at different heights and it looks unnatural as one is standing on the pedestal, and the other is hovering that half metre above it.

I'm sure it's obvious why it's doing this, it's just not obvious to me.

Thanks.

Some of the prims in your object may be made from large prims that are cut into smaller shapes. When you rez them, it assumes the invisible boundary as though the prim hasn't been cut yet.
So, for example, if you have some prim in the object made from a large sphere that is cut into a tiny piece, the rezzing will still assume that its made from a large sphere. So it rezzes it above ground.

I've experienced that this happens alot of the time with prims that are cut/etc, being at different heights than ones that are not when rez'd.

You could put a script in the object and have it set in the on rez function that it should llSetPos to the correct height.

Ahh that'd be it, the difference on the second one is that it has legs made from a part path of a large ring, instead of just cylinders like the first one.

That is a pain though.

Thanks, at least I know what the issue is now.
