Hello, I;m sure that this is a terrible question with an obvious answer but I have searched throughout the forums with no luck. I have a bookcase and I want people to be able to click it to view the contents. Inside I have notecards in the contents. But when others have tried they cannot read the notecards because it says they lack permissions. I would like everyone to be able to read whats on the notecards. Can anyone help me with what I am doing wrong?

Thanks.

I think if you set the notecards to "allow anyone to copy", people should be able to read them. Give it a whirl. Make sure to do it after the cards have been placed in the bookcase's contents.

Yep, and by the way, that means right-clicking on the notecards while they're in the object's (bookcase's?) contents, selecting their Properties, and checking the appropriate checkbox there. I think it works best to have the permission boxes below them checked too.

Just in case you like many others haven't noticed, the object also has a property in the General tab to change what happens when anyone left clicks on it (Touch, Sit, Buy, Open...). If you want to want people to pick which notecards they want out of the contents, make this automatically "open". If you prefer just to speed people up in grabbing the entire contents, consider making others "buy" the "contents" for L$0.

hmmm i have clicked all the permissions for the case itself and for each individual notecard as suggested here in the properties menu for each and still when another clicks the case the contents do not open as they should. Is there no way to allow others to view my notecards like this?

Ah, I believe in order to read a note card, you must own it. Are you transferring the note card to others, or just expecting them to click on the note card within the object?

You can, have a script read a note card into chat or im. Of course, you lose control of the content (if that is what you are after) if you do that. Would work for limericks, not so hot for novels. :)

If you don't want prevent people from owning the note card, what you want is in item giver with a selection dialog.

Hello Renee, You are right on the money. I needed a script. Looks like I'm learning to script a little whether I wanted to or not. If anyone else is interested in this topic. I had to use lldialog in the script to hand out the cards from a blue menu. I'm still working out the kinks but it does work. Thanks to those who replied.

Your problem is most likely a bug Lindens introduced into SL in version 1.17 and have not fixed since then. The bug is listed here: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-1225
Please vote for it. log in top right and then vote bottom left.

Everyone else please vote too please.
