How high can I build?

I remember reading this somewhere before but can't quite recall where.. I'm trying to build up on a platform but it isn't letting me move any higher than 768. Is that the limit or am I just running into a glitch? =x

Thought I saw a building higher here but guess I could be mistaken.

You can build upto about 4000 meters these days, but you must have installed the latest SL client, and not run an old version :)

Oooh! I don't want to upgrade, lol.

Thank you.. Guess I'll finally give in and hope it isn't terrible as I've read.

question kinda related to this OP...Do the existing teleporter system teleport up to 4000m? I'm guessing that would require script updates to the existing versions.

I had a teleporter script that woud not work when I moved up to 2000 meters. But it was a simple fix to the script. The script checked and if it was over 1000 meters away, it would not work assuming you had made an error when you entered the coordinates while setting it up. I guess that was a good assumption until the height limit got changed.

4096 M is the limit with the new client. 768 with the old one.

No, most teleport scripts do not yet work as-is to get you that high. Sit elevators do, however.

A word of caution. If you use the new client to build above 768 meters, and is ANYONE who has edit rights on your prims is the least bit likely to visit that high build with an older client, make sure you "lock" the prims in place. (It's a checkbox setting on the same tab in the building interface as Phantom...) The reason for this warning is that if you move a prim that is above 768 while you are using a client that is too old to allow building above 768, that moved prim will relocate to Z=768 Meters.

What is the difference? I may have been using a sit elevator and calling it a teleporter.

A sit elevator requires you to sit on an object, and it then moves the object, and you with it, to the new location. At the destination, it un-sits you via a script, and the 'elevator pad' returns to its former location. They tend to be a little slower than a teleporter, though there are some teleporters that move you in pretty much the same way, temp-rezzing a "teleport beam", which you touch or sit on, and then you appear at the new location.

On a related note: VWR-7331 to fix llMapDestination

Cheree, the Lindens made a similar 1000-meter assumption in the viewer code: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-7331. You may want to vote to save llMapDestination from this erroneous llclamp. It's assigned to the generic WorkingOnIt Linden but not yet In Progress so it's still open for voting.
