Use multiple prims, and think in terms of what you can do with triangles, rectangles, and most useful of all, rectangles that are narrowed on one edge and skewed so two corners remain at 90 degrees, and the other two are an an angle.

For that last sort of basic roof prim, start with a cube, and taper it on X by 20%, then skew it on X by 10%. Make Y the thickness you want, and make X and Z the size of the part you need. Rotate it on the X-axis to get the roof pitch you want. To duplicate one of these for the other side of the roof, copy, rotate on Z-axis, and reverse the sign of the x-skew value.

You'll probably have to fiddle with angles a bit, but by using that sort of roof prim, almost any modern roof shape is possible.

I used "The Sims" to doodle out my house :P. I think your could be done with maybe 8 or 10 prims :).
