i'm still trying to get my head around SLs building methods and feel like i'm beating my head against a wall. How are you guys making shapes like these:

Tapering, spiral "horns"...

Bending, tapered cones....

these are tapered and bulged cylinders I made (in 2 seconds) in Max. How do I make them here?....

any help you can give this frustrated pile of N00b would rock my world beyond recognition.

Try experimenting with the Torus. There are alot of variables with this shape. Im not sure its used for all the pics you showed but I know it is for some. Good Luck! :D

first off whenever you make an primitive and edit it be shure to hit the blue more button, this will expand the window and provide options that are needed almost all the time, such as numeric prim sizes, special propertys, textures contents ect

in the 3rd picture the first object can be made with a torus hollowed out (with a circle shape) and cut using the profile cut, it wont be 100% tho it will have a little point at the top, but you can hide that ez enugh either in other objects or with a transparent texture

the second object could be made close enugh again with a torus and a profile cut (half way) then streaching it out abit..

hope that helps some :)

Look into the torus, the ring, and the tube shapes.

All prims use circle, square, and triangle math to be generated. So, circle prims are spheres, cylinders, and torii, squares are cubes and tubes, and triangles are prisms and rings.

The torus, especially, is useful for the kinds of shapes you're wanting.
